Nascut in Wilmette, pe 11 septembrie 1950, Bill Murray a fost un copil incorigibil. In incercarea de a-si gasi directia in viata, se alatura fratelui sau mai mare, Brian Doyle-Murray, intr-un rol in Chicago’s Second City, o trupa de comici.
S-a lansat pe culmile succesului cu filmul Stripes, care a castigat peste 40 de milioane de dolari. Urmatoarea aparitie a lui Bill Murray a fost in 1982 in Tootsie, inainte de aparitia sa alaturi de Dan Aykroyd si Harold Ramis in 1984 in Ghostbusters.
