Nascuta la New York, actrita Rosario Dawson a debutat pe marele ecran in filmul lui Larry Clark, Kids (1995). Pur si simplu luata de pe strada pentru a juca rolul Ruby, una dintre adolescentele din rolul principal, Dawson - care are origini Porto Ricane, cubaneze, africane, irlandeze si americane - nu a mai jucat inainte de a fi distribuita in acest film. Dupa Kids, avea sa joace in serialul Side Streets.

Credincioasa originilor ei New York-eze, Dawson a continuat sa joace in productii din orasul ei natal, inclusiv Light It Up (1999), o drama in care actrita a fost distribuita in rolul unei studente respectate tinuta ostateca si in Îndrăgostiți... ca la 16 ani / Down to You (2000), o comedie romantica. Dupa blocajul cu Josie and the Pussycats (2001) si un rol principal in Sidewalks of New York, Dawson trece la comedia S.F. in 2002 si joaca in Men in Black 2 si The Adventures of Pluto Nash.
